Karl Robinson withdraws from Addicks’ duties.
Roland Duchâtelet’s helm at Charlton Athletic has taken one further leap into pandemoniac crisis as Karl Robinson’s third attempt at resignation results in success, with Lee Bowyer stepping up as interim Head Coach.
The Liverpudlian was hired in November of 2016; a tenth attempt at establishing managerial stability in South London throughout the past four years and is tipped to cement his future managerial ambitions along the M40 through an imminent appointment at 16th placed Oxford United.
A seemingly impossible task given the hostile, fund-stricken nature of ownership, the former Milton Keynes Dons’ man had injected a rare sense of unity amongst what remains of a board and the Valley faithful, providing infectious personality and stamping what many perceived to be an early free-flowing, aggressive footprint on Addicks’ tactics. An inevitable lack of financial backing paired with an injury-riddled squad proved strenuous on Robinson’s sights with the likes of 2016/17’s POTY Ricky Holmes’ value cashed in favouring a Steel City move and Billy Clarke, Leon Best and most recently Captain Chris Solly facing season-ending injuries merely touches upon the underlying issues in SE7.
Predictably, recent results have only mirrored the off-field chaos with a severe decline in an already record low attendances with Robinson the obvious scapegoat through an elongated period of unrest.
Opting for the U’s may well salvage what remains of the Scouse tactician’s sanity.
